Autumn is a spectacular time of year in Park City. Whether you’re a local, or a visitor enjoying a stay in a luxury vacation rental, there is a bounty of activities to choose from, even before the snow begins to fly! Exploring Park City during what many would consider an “off-season” can be as enjoyable as a traditional winter ski vacation. Fantastic travel bargains and entertainment discounts are plentiful at this time of year, so a weekend getaway to our little mountain ski town can be accomplished within a reasonable budget. 1) Park City and film now go hand-in-hand, as Park City plays host to the Sundance Film Festival each winter. Although the Film Festival comes with loads of glitz and glamour, visitors to Park City can take advantage of viewing past Sundance submissions by attending Park City Film Series free screenings. On Thursday, November 8th, Park City and Summit County film makers as well as multi-media artists are invited to screen their short films and visual work at in front of a live audience. 2) It’s the Crepuscular Creep! What, you ask? Or, perhaps, Who? is a more appropriate question! Join in on a 45 minute twilight hike and learn all about nocturnal and crepuscular animals that inhabit the Park City area. At the end of the hike, you’ll enjoy a meet-and-greet with Athena, the Great Horned Owl! Discover the mysterious world that awakens once your head hits the pillow. Hikers should meet at Wasatch Mountain State Park Visitors Center at 7:00PM. Be sure to dress warmly and wear hiking shoes. Please call 435-654-1791 to RSVP. You’ll have a hoot!
3) Park City turns to “Bark City” on October 31st, as the annual “Howl-o-Ween” Dog Parade takes over Main Street! This annual tradition has turned in to quite the event as locals and visitors alike dress their doggies in all sorts of crazy Halloween costumes and parade down Main Street in Park City! The parade begins at 4:30, and you should plan on gathering for the start at the Egyptian Theater. At 5:45, head down to the Town Lift Plaza for a dog costume contest. Prizes for best child/dog costume and best family are just a sampling of the awards that will be handed out. Finally, Get your party on and bark at the moon for the animals at the Town Lift Plaza! Beginning at 5:30PM, join Friends of Animals for food, drinks and music with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Friends of Animals. Visit Friends of Animals website for further details.
4) Trick-or-Treat! It’s Halloween Park City Style! Bring along your little ghosts and goblins for a march up and down Main Street to gather up lots of Halloween treats to fill their jack-o-lanterns. Main Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic, so it’s a safe and fun way for all the little ghouls to get a big stash of treats from local merchants!
