Another exciting weekend on the mountain comes to an end as we say “See ya next year” to the annual Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Ski and Snowboard competition at Park City Mountain Resort. This past week and weekend was blessed with bluebird skies, warm temps, and perfect snow conditions for the participants and spectators alike.
Wednesday kicked off the events with the very popular and so fun to watch, Paul Mitchell Progression Session. Here some of the top names in skiing and snowboarding took to the street style setup and showed the crowd some of their best rail, wall, and box tricks. After the show everyone headed to Main Street for a free performance in the street by Cold War Kids.
Thursday was all about the skiers where they participated in the halfpipe qualifier round. Friday was then all about the snowboarders with the halfpipe finals. Here we got to see some amazing talent from riders such as Louie Vito, Scott Lago, and Shaun White. After some mind blowing runs Luke Mitrani takes 3rd, Scott Lago with 2nd, and Shaun White in 1st. All three finalists representing the good ole U S of A!
Saturday came the skier halfpipe finals. The sun was out, the crowd was pumped, and the skiers were ready to go. Watching some of the best skiers in the world hit this superpipe is pretty insane to watch. Tricks like right 720 opposite mute grabs and right double cork 1260 mute grabs were being thrown around like it was just a walk in the park for these athletes. The day came to an end with Aaron Blunck of the USA in 3rd, Simon D-Artois of Canada in 2nd, and Beau-James Wells from New Zealand taking 1st.
The natural conditions, excitement of the crowds, and determination of the athletes made this Grand Prix at Park City Mountain Resort one to remember. I really enjoyed having the chance to be part of the action and attending all of the events. It was a great weekend for Park City as well as for those who love skiing and snowboarding!
