  1. Slow Down and Enjoy Spring in Park City, Utah!

We’ve had a few rainy days here in Park City, Utah, but don’t worry!  All the spring moisture will help green things up faster and bring us even closer to our coveted, amazing Park City summer season!  If you’re planning a trip to Park City,Utah during the summer months, there may be a few things you need or would like to plan in advance.  One of those items is lodging, and the other may be tickets to some great local events.  I have recommendations for both!

Spring in Park City!

Finding an amazing luxury vacation rental can be a daunting task.  How do you know the representation of the property online is what you’ll truly see when you turn the key and walk through the door?  This is something I often worry about when I travel, as I truly enjoy staying in vacation rentals as a change from lodging in hotels.  Both are great options, but sometimes, it’s nice to walk through the doors of a beautifully decorated home and enjoy the amenities that it provides.  I enjoy cooking when I travel and not necessarily eating every meal out, so vacation rentals are a great choice!  I do often worry though that if I don’t book through a trusted source, I may end up renting a place that is not what I bargained for!  So, I’ve listed a few exceptional choices here for you to review for your summer travel, and what’s more, you can rent them through a reputable source!  So, pack those bags, grab your hiking boots, and don’t forget your bathing suit – it’s going to be a fun summer here in Park City!

One of my favorite things about Park City is Main Street; the shops, the dining, the history of it all, and the neighborhoods surrounding the Min Street area are so very charming!  What better way to treat yourself to a summer retreat in Old Town Park City than a stay at the Main Street Estate!  Located just steps away from all the action, you can enjoy a cozy, beautifully appointed retreat and have the convenience of being located right at the heart of all the fun!  This gem has it all, with three bedrooms, upgraded kitchen any gourmet chef would approve of, and, most importantly, a backyard with a 6-person hot tub!  There is no better way to finish off an evening in Park City than with a glass of wine, kick back and enjoying a starry summers night in your own private hot tub!  Once you arrive at the Main Street Estate, you’ll never need a car – you’re stay in Park City will be relaxed and easy!  This listing is available on our main area of the website.

Old Town Chamber in the Heart of the action!

Thinking you may want to go big for your summer stay in Park City?  Well, then, have I got a place for you to checkout!  The Canyons Mansion would make even the most famous “A-lister” take notice!  Wirth room for twenty-two, you can being your whole crew for a mountain get-away!  This award-winning home is located nestled in to Canyons Ski Resort, which offers amazing hiking, events and dining during the summer season.  Although, you may never want to leave this estate as it hosts a game room and a state-of-the-art movie theatre!  This home has exquisite details, and is a favorite celebrity retreat, especially during the Sundance Film Festival!  Live the dream in Park City this summer, and settle in to Canyons Mansion for a nice long stay.

A-List Ammenities at Canyons Mansion!

OK, now that you have a place to stay, you’ll want to have a few things planned to do.  Beginning on May 2nd, 2012, tickets will go on sale for the first three shows of Deer Valley’s Big Stars Bright Nights Concert Series.  The series kicks off July 13th at 7PM with a performance by Aaron Neville and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.  The next show will take place on July 29th, and will be a performance by country legend Dwight Yoakam.  Pull on your blue jeans, grab your cowboy hat, and hunker down for an evening enjoying the mesmerizing lyrics of this country crooner.  Finally, the third show you can purchase tickets to is the legendary singer of Supertramp – Roger Hodgson.  Can’t quite remember any Supertramp songs?  Here’s a hint; you’ll want to “Take the Long Way Home” after this show just so you can review the highlights of the evening!  For more information on these shows, and other planned throughout the summer, visit www.ecclescenter.org .

Another event worth buying tickets in advance to is the annual ParkCity Food and Wine Classic.  A favorite event of locals and visitors alike, you’ll have a chance to delight in culinary bliss, taste wines from more vineyards than if you actually tooka trip to Napa, and enjoy unique vintner dinners and showcase events.  This, my friends, is a party you do not want to miss!  You can purchase tickets to the Grand Tasting Event, the Wine on the Mountain Event, and loads of amazing seminars at www.parkcityfoodanwineclassic.com .  The events begin on July 5th, 2012 and roll through July 8th.  What a perfect way to cap off the famous 4th of July holiday inParkCity!

Well, the ski resorts in Park City,Utah have wound down to a close and will all be preparing their slopes and villages for the onset of the summer season.  Until that happens, what is there to do in Park City while we wait for the music festivals, wine and food events and outdoor activities to begin?  As it turns out, quite a bit!  Perhaps our little ski town becomes a bit quieter, but don’t despair!  This is a great time to be enjoying the Wasatch Back, slow down, and enjoy the beauty that is Rocky Mountain springtime.  We tend to rush from winter to summer here; I suggest you enjoy what can be a turbulent, but lovely time of year in Park City.  Even better, you can score some amazing deals on luxury vacation rentals in the spring time!

Because the weather can turn on a dime, it’s always good to have both an indoor and outdoor strategy for a good time during the spring.  As far as indoor activities go, how about a little celebration of art history month?  Sound a little dull?  Not so fast! Katharine Coles, Utah’s Poet Laureate, will be speaking and reading her poetry at the Kimball Art Center’s Art Talk on Thursday, April 19th, beginning at 6PM.  Coles is the author of several collections of poetry, and the poems she will be sharing come from her new works inspired by a recent trip to the Antarctic.  Her poems will offer a little joy and a glance in to her blissful journey to Antarctica. Coles has received numerous honors for hr work, including a grant from the National Endowment for the arts. Katharine’s art talk will take place at the Kimball Art Center, and is free and open to the public.  Visit www.kimballartcenter.org for further details.

Celebrate Poetry Month at The Kimball Art Center!

For something a little more light-hearted, you may want to grab some tickets, while they last, the annual follies event at The Egyptian Theatre.  This is THE theater event of the year, as a very talented group of local actors and actresses take the opportunity to poke fun at life in ParkCity.  “The One True Follies – End of Days” promises to be an hilarious lookat the past year, and take a few jabs at the people, places, and businesses that exist in ParkCity.  With a video montage, chorus line, and cameo appearance by ParkCity’s own Mayor Dana Williams, this is truly a local’s favorite event each and every year.  Tickets go fast, so be sure to reserve soon!  The show runs April 27th-May 5th on weekends.  Giggle your way over to www.egyptiantheatrecompany.com for more details.

One True Follies – Good Times at The Egyptian!

If you’re like me, you like to have a little dinner before or after a show.  A great place to have a pre- or post-theater meal is Grappa, located at the top of Main Street.  Grappa is located in a beautiful, historic building, and the dining there is an intimate experience.  With tables tucked in to cozy corners, and servers well versed in the delicious Northern Italian menu offerings, you night will surely be a special one!  Grappa offers amazing scallops, an amazing grape and gorgonzola salad, and a mushroom soup that will make you yearn for seconds.  To top it all off, they are offering a two-for-one coupon in the ParkRecord right now, so you can enjoy an amazing dinner while saving a little cash too!  Visit www.billwhiterestaurantgroup.com for hours and menus.

Grappa. Intimate 5-star dining.

Another of my favorite spots to dine in Park City is Atticus Coffee, Books & Teahouse located at the bottom of Main Streetin OldTown.  Atticus offers fresh, healthy choices for breakfast and lunch, and the best latte in town!  They also offer a tea selection that could keep you occupied for hours trying to decide which one to try (My favorite is the Vanilla Rooibus!).  Atticus also has shelves and shelves of new and used books for you to bury yourself in while sipping on a hot cup of coffee and snacking on a freshly made salad or sandwich.  There is no better place to spend a rainy spring afternoon, or a sunny spring morning, fueling up for the day ahead.  You can visit them at 738 Main Street or www.atticustea.com .

Atticus – a great spot to cozy up with a book and your favorite coffee of tea brew.

I often write here about the amazing things to do here in Park City.  You might think that could be a daunting task to find items to list as entertainment options for our treasured visitors to this amazing little ski town.  However, it is not!  The lost of events, cultural activities, shopping opportunities, fine dining choices and outdoor activities is truly almost endless.  There is never any need to utter the words, “I’m bored!”, unless you have made the conscious effort to allow yourself to actually sit and do nothing!

So, what is life like at altitude, you ask? Splendid! Those of us who are lucky enough to call Park City Utah home have it pretty good.  The general cliché is; “You move here for the winters, and you stay for the summers”, and that is indeed true.

Beautiful Deer Valley at Sunset!

The winter months in Park City are pretty spectacular, to say the least.  How many locales can you visit that have such a vast array or winter activities, festivals and happenings?  For such a small community, we work hard to ensure our guests and locals always have a good time!  Although there’s nothing to complain about when you can roll out of bed and be on a chairlift in less than 30 minutes, there is so much more to this mountain community during the ski season!  I love to explore the groomed as well as off-piste cross-country ski trails available both in town, and in the surrounding Wasatch and Uinta Mountains.  The trail options are endless, and there is something for every skill level.  I also love the outdoor winter live music that is offered throughout the season.  Whether it’s at Canyons Resort Village, or on our own Main Street, the concert activity doesn’t stop just because the snow is flying!  There’s something to be said for braving the winter night’s chill, grabbing a warm beverage, and listening to some great music!  And then there’s the skiing / riding.  With three world-class resorts to choose from, all within a stone’s throw distance, you really do get spoiled living in Park City!  I am a huge fan of the friendly, fun atmosphere of Park City Mountain Resort!  They host terrain that suits every level, amazing jib parks, and fun restaurants and pubs for your après delight.  Deer Valley is in a class of its own, with five diamond service, the most amazing on-mountain cuisine you could ever imagine, and the world’s best corduroy to carve!  Last, but not least, Canyons offers all sorts of new fun restaurants, great outdoor events, and endless terrain – I don’t think you could even come close to skiing it all in one day!

Fresh Park City Powder – All For You!

But alas, winter doesn’t last forever, and once you’ve spent a summer in Park City, Utah, you’ll be glad that’s the case!  With humidity-free, balmy days, and cool mountain nights, summer rentals in Park City are truly a treat!  Last year, Mountain Town Music hosted over 300 free, live concerts – 300! My favorite weekly routine is the Wednesday night free concert series.  Each Wednesday at 6PM, Park City’s finest local bands and musicians grace the Deer Valley concert stage.  Attendees lay out blankets, bring a few lounge chairs, and enjoy an evening of free music!  The best part?  It truly is a community event – everyone brings picnic baskets, coolers, and bottles of wine to share while they catch up on each other’s busy lives.  Of course, the summer outdoor activities are unrivaled, and there just isn’t enough room to list them all here!  I do love taking my dogs for a hike on the numerous trails in the area, or grabbing my kayak or paddleboard and heading to a local reservoir to enjoy a little time on the water.  And then there’s the festivals; music festivals, food and wine festivals, arts festivals, I’m excited just thinking about all of them! My favorite is perhaps the annual Food & wine Festival, hosted each July in and around Park City.  Multitudes of vineyards are represented at vintner dinners, special events, a wine stroll and the huge tasting event at Canyons! It’s a celebration that Bacchus himself would be proud to attend!

Delicious! Food & Wine Festival.

I could go on, and on about life in Park City.  The amount to do during your visit here is indeed staggering!  And let it be known, I do believe you should relax during your visit as well.  Take advantage of one of our starry mountain nights, winter, or summer, sit back in your hot tub at your vacation rental, and relish in a day well spent skiing, or hiking, or shopping, or whatever it is you’ve done.  Perhaps you’ll too become a convert and decide you might just want to spend a little more time in Park City.  And really, who could blame you?

Springtime in Park City, Utah is a time where we locals get creative as to how we entertain ourselves! With the ski resorts getting ready to unload their last lift, and the snow slowly beginning to disappear, the season we fondly call “mud season” is about to be upon us. Sound a little dreary? Well, buck up! Park City never disappoints and always offers a variety of options to keep you busy and enjoying the new season of spring! Need to ski gear for next year? Now is a great time to grab retail deals as stores look to unload this season’s inventory to make way for summer items. Wanting to try one of Main Street’s pricey and fabulous eateries? There is no better time than the shoulder season, as many offer fantastic dining discounts. And, with the weather we have been experiencing, there are actually some great hiking and biking trails already dry enough to enjoy! There is no bad time to visit Park City, Utah!

Ghidotti’s, located in Kimball Junction, is bringing back their famous $5 Thursdays! Sometimes, we could all use a little shot of youthful energy and imagination. The Kimball Art Center will open the annual Wasatch Back Student Art Show on April 14th, through May 27th. This is one of Kimball’s most popular exhibits each year, and offers art lovers a chance to view local kids’ art in a gallery setting. All of the Park City schools participate, as well as other Summit County schools and the exhibit grows each year. Last year there was over 350 pieces of art on display that were created by over 500 students. The students were given a theme to work with, and interpret as they wish. This year the theme is “Everyday Art”, and the goal of this theme was to have students look at everyday items as art, to see the art all around them. Not a bad piece of advice really, especially when you’re visiting a place as beautiful as Park City, Utah! Check out further details at www.kimballartcenter.org .

The warmer weather is certainly giving everyone in Park City, Utah a dose of spring fever!  Although we know there will be more snow to come, it sure is nice to head out in to the sunshine and enjoy a great spring ski, a walk on Main Street, or many of the other activities that are occurring out and about town.  I know it’s tough to tear yourself away from your amazing luxury vacation rental; however, if you do decide to venture out after a day of skiing in the soft spring snow, there are a ton of great activities occurring in Park City for the Easter holiday this week!

Park City Mountain Resort Easter Egg Hunt 2012

The Easter Holiday is upon us this weekend, and Park City Mountain resort has an Easter Egg Hunt for the grown-ups!  The annual “Hunt for the Golden Egg” takes place all around the resort with two golden eggs at stake.  What’s in it for you if you find a Golden Egg?  A 2012/2013 Season Pass to Park City Mountain Resort!  To make the pot even sweeter, there are two of these eggs hidden somewhere on the resort.  Clues as to the location of the Golden Eggs can be found on Park City Mountain resort’s Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/parkcitymountainresort , or on their website, www.parkcitymountain.com .  Non-golden eggs will also be placed throughout the resort, and those eggs will contain a variety of additional great prizes!  You could win yourself 2012 activities passes, or 2012/13 lift passes – not a bad deal!  Other events occurring on Easter include a special egg hunt for the kids, a visit from the Easter Bunny himself, and yummy hot chocolate and coffee to keep you energized for that egg hunt!  The Easter Bunny will be in the resort’s Kid’s Korral beginning at 9AM and will “hoppily” visit with kids 6 years of age and under.

The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance at Deer Valley Resort on Easter Sunday as well.  He’ll be hanging out at the Snow Park Lodge from 9AM-11AM.  Deer Valley will also host a church service from 2PM-3PM at the Sunset Cabin located on Bald Mountain.  The Easter Bunny is a busy guy this time of year, as he will also be making an appearance at Canyons resort on Easter Sunday for their annual Easter Egg Hunt festivities.  The egg hunt begins at 11AM in the Resort Village.  There will be two categories for the hunt; infant to 4 years old, and 5 years-10 years old.  Participants should meet on the Umbrella Bar deck and bring along their own Easter basket to collect eggs in.  Visit www.canyonsresort.com and www.deervalley.com for additional information.

Does all of that talk of Peter Cottontail and potential egg hunting make you thirsty for one of Park City’s finest cocktails?  You’re in luck!  On Wednesday, April 4th, the biannual Park City Cocktail contest will be taking place at Cisero’s.  Beginning at 6:30PM, Park City’s finest mixologists will be creating their newest delicious cocktail concoctions in hopes that they will take over the “Official Summer Cocktail of Park City” title.  The winter contest had Sky Blue’s bartender Cody Childers winning with his delicious Pommard drink – Yum!  After a bartender wins his battle round with another bartender, the winning drink is available to purchase and sample.  At the end, a champion is crowned and their drink will be offered at park City’s fine dining establishments throughout the summer.  Find out more at www.parkcityrestaurants.com .
