Well, the ski resorts in Park City,Utah have wound down to a close and will all be preparing their slopes and villages for the onset of the summer season.  Until that happens, what is there to do in Park City while we wait for the music festivals, wine and food events and outdoor activities to begin?  As it turns out, quite a bit!  Perhaps our little ski town becomes a bit quieter, but don’t despair!  This is a great time to be enjoying the Wasatch Back, slow down, and enjoy the beauty that is Rocky Mountain springtime.  We tend to rush from winter to summer here; I suggest you enjoy what can be a turbulent, but lovely time of year in Park City.  Even better, you can score some amazing deals on luxury vacation rentals in the spring time!

Because the weather can turn on a dime, it’s always good to have both an indoor and outdoor strategy for a good time during the spring.  As far as indoor activities go, how about a little celebration of art history month?  Sound a little dull?  Not so fast! Katharine Coles, Utah’s Poet Laureate, will be speaking and reading her poetry at the Kimball Art Center’s Art Talk on Thursday, April 19th, beginning at 6PM.  Coles is the author of several collections of poetry, and the poems she will be sharing come from her new works inspired by a recent trip to the Antarctic.  Her poems will offer a little joy and a glance in to her blissful journey to Antarctica. Coles has received numerous honors for hr work, including a grant from the National Endowment for the arts. Katharine’s art talk will take place at the Kimball Art Center, and is free and open to the public.  Visit www.kimballartcenter.org for further details.

For something a little more light-hearted, you may want to grab some tickets, while they last, the annual follies event at The Egyptian Theatre.  This is THE theater event of the year, as a very talented group of local actors and actresses take the opportunity to poke fun at life in ParkCity.  “The One True Follies – End of Days” promises to be an hilarious lookat the past year, and take a few jabs at the people, places, and businesses that exist in ParkCity.  With a video montage, chorus line, and cameo appearance by ParkCity’s own Mayor Dana Williams, this is truly a local’s favorite event each and every year.  Tickets go fast, so be sure to reserve soon!  The show runs April 27th-May 5th on weekends.  Giggle your way over to www.egyptiantheatrecompany.com for more details.

If you’re like me, you like to have a little dinner before or after a show.  A great place to have a pre- or post-theater meal is Grappa, located at the top of Main Street.  Grappa is located in a beautiful, historic building, and the dining there is an intimate experience.  With tables tucked in to cozy corners, and servers well versed in the delicious Northern Italian menu offerings, you night will surely be a special one!  Grappa offers amazing scallops, an amazing grape and gorgonzola salad, and a mushroom soup that will make you yearn for seconds.  To top it all off, they are offering a two-for-one coupon in the ParkRecord right now, so you can enjoy an amazing dinner while saving a little cash too!  Visit www.billwhiterestaurantgroup.com for hours and menus.

Grappa. Intimate 5-star dining.

Another of my favorite spots to dine in Park City is Atticus Coffee, Books & Teahouse located at the bottom of Main Streetin OldTown.  Atticus offers fresh, healthy choices for breakfast and lunch, and the best latte in town!  They also offer a tea selection that could keep you occupied for hours trying to decide which one to try (My favorite is the Vanilla Rooibus!).  Atticus also has shelves and shelves of new and used books for you to bury yourself in while sipping on a hot cup of coffee and snacking on a freshly made salad or sandwich.  There is no better place to spend a rainy spring afternoon, or a sunny spring morning, fueling up for the day ahead.  You can visit them at 738 Main Street or www.atticustea.com .

Atticus – a great spot to cozy up with a book and your favorite coffee of tea brew.
