Park City is a destination known for its outdoor activities, making it the perfect place to spend Labor Day Weekend. The weekend is often referred to as the last weekend of the summer, so what better way is there to celebrate than by enjoying the beautiful outdoors of Park City with your family? Here are some of the best ways to spend Labor Day in Park City.
Miner’s Day Parade
Miners Day Parade is held on Monday, September 3 and celebrates Park City’s mining heritage. Start the day off right with a $5 pancake breakfast in the city park. After breakfast is the Running of the Balls. Thousands of numbered golf balls are poured out at the top of Main Street. The first balls to reach the bottom win prizes, including passes to ski resorts. After the Running of the Balls is the Miners Day Parade. The parade starts on Main Street and Park Ave and ends at City Park, where there is a barbeque, games for kids, and live music. The day ends with the Skateboard Pro Bowl Jam. The contest features both amateur and pro skateboarders.
Hiking
Park City is known for its beautiful nature, and one of the best ways to celebrate Labor Day is to get outside and go for a hike. The Armstrong Trail is one of the most popular hikes in the area. This trail takes you to the top of Park City Mountain and has steep elevation gains at the beginning of the trail but offers amazing views of the city and surrounding mountains. The trail eventually reaches a plateau with a forested area, so you can cool down in the shade.
Golfing On Labor Day in Park City
Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf offers an amazing course with stunning views of the surrounding area. The greens are smooth, flat, and well-kept, and each hole offers unique views of the mountains. It is also common to see wildlife walking near the course, including moose and deer. The course is easy to book and is about a half hour drive from Park City.
Free Concert
Park City offers two free concert series during the summer. Canyons Village holds free concerts on Thursday and Saturday nights. You can watch Salt Lake City funk band Big Blue Ox play on Thursday night or R&B singer Marc Broussard perform on Saturday Night. Park City Mountain Village holds a free concert series Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night all summer long. Over Labor Day weekend they will also be hosting a Monday night concert.
Last Friday Gallery Stroll
On the Last Friday of each month during the summer, all of Park City’s galleries open up to the public for free. You can stroll through more than 20 art galleries to admire Park City’s diverse art scene. Many of the galleries also offer light snacks and beer and wine.
