The Wonders of Winter in Park City
We are a mountain village with two ski resorts to our name, so as you can very well imagine, winter is a season in which we come alive! Enjoy long days spent on the exciting slopes of Park City Ski Resort or the equally exciting slopes of Deer Valley Ski Resort, cozy evenings spent savoring après ski at local hot spots, and best of all, long nights in the comfort and warmth of our Park City Vacation Rentals seasonal sanctuaries. Sitting in front of a roaring fire with a cup of homemade hot cocoa in hand is one of life’s greatest luxuries, and as you watch the snow fall outside, sipping, chatting, and holding hands with your favorite traveling partner, the memories made with us promise to be ones you will never forget!
Happier Holidays in Park City
It is hard for us to imagine a Christmas without snow, and if you have decided to perhaps enjoy your first white Christmas with us, you will discover the spirit is rich and plentiful in Park City. Our postcard picture perfect town is always decorated to the nines with the historic downtown area shining brighter than all the rest!
Spend some of your vacation budget popping in and out of the shops found here, picking up last-minute Christmas gifts for friends and family that you just won’t find anywhere else. Stop by Pine Park City at 323 Main Street and browse through their selection of gifts and décor and purchase some holiday décor to add to the cheer of your seasonal escape. Our fully equipped laundry rooms and spaces allow guests to pack light, so you should have plenty of room in your suitcase to take whatever you purchased home with you! The Park Silly Holiday Bazaar, held December 10th through the 12th, is sure to have all of the gifts guaranteed to bring tears to the eyes of the recipients, and unlike our normal Park Silly Sunday Market, it is being held inside where it is warm and dry!
New Year’s Eve has always been a fun night in Park City and in past years the Torchlight Parade held at Deer Valley was the highlight of the night. Offering a nighttime ski down the slopes carrying torches, this serene event has long been a tradition we love, but in 2020 the parade went virtual. There is no word yet if it will take place virtually or live once again this year, but either it way the parade will be your favorite part of the holidays!
Sundance Film Festival, January 20th Through January 30th in 2022
You have watched the celebration on television for years, but this year it is time for you to be a part of the excitement as Park City (and Salt Lake City, but that is for a different guide!) is home to this most famous of film festivals. Paying homage to the movies, the stars, the directors, and everyone involved with bringing magic to the screen, the 2022 version is a hybrid one, allowing guests to participate virtually, in person, or both. Attend meet the director events, watch the movies that everyone will be talking about, and rub shoulders with the rich and beautiful as you participate in this historic and much-loved festival!
A Night on the Town
Avid skiers and snowboarders may plan on spending much of their days on the slopes, but when dusk falls, there are still many hours to fill with fun! A night on the town in Park City can be a cosmopolitan experience that rivals any of the big cities in America, starting with an early dinner at Prime Steakhouse and Piano Bar, located at 804 Main Street. Serving a meat-centric menu filled with the best cuts of aged beef, the live piano music that accompanies your meal will be a great way to get the party started!
Once you have enjoyed the last bite of their Prime Molten Chocolate Cake, you will probably be pretty full, so a walk through the frosty streets of Park City to the Egyptian Theater will be a great way to aid your digestion! The historic Egyptian Theater located at 328 Main Street, has been a community staple since construction was finished in the early 1920s, and its lighted marquis has been a welcome sight through many decades, even as it went through some tough times during the depression and more recently during the pandemic. Today it is open again, and your night on the town will be more fulfilling when you watch one of the live performances they offer nearly every night of the week. If your visit to Park City takes place during the weekend of December 17 through 19th, their Park City’s Holiday Spectacular and Community Sing along is definitely a show you won’t want to miss, especially as it rumored that the world’s jolliest elf will be making a personal appearance!
Finally, for those determined to do the night up right, end the evening at the Spur Bar & Grill, located within walking distance of the Egyptian at 352 Main Street! Staying open until 1 AM, you can manage a solid two hours or more at this popular spot, sipping whiskey, wine, or beer and dancing to the live music of local performers! When the lights come up, you will definitely be ready for a good night’s sleep in our vacation rentals’ cloud soft beds, and because ride share is available in Park City, you won’t need to worry about a designated driver.
Spring’s Promise Revealed
While winter in Park City is wonderful, spring also offers an excitement with which you will fall in love, and while many of your friends may be heading to more tropical locales, you know the answer to an amazing Spring Break can be found on the slopes of Park City! Ski season generally lasts until mid-April, so pack your winter coats and plan on renting everything else you need for a ski break you won’t ever forget! Sign up for snowboard lessons at Park City Ski Resort and learn a new sport that will become your new obsession or spend the day schussing at Deer Valley Ski Resort, where snowboards aren’t yet allowed, only skis. Sip hot cocoa from Jupiter Java on Park City Mountain when you need to warm your fingers and toes, and fuel up for your afternoon runs with a hearty lunch at Legends Bar & Grill, which also happens to be a fabulous place for après ski after your last run of the day! The Daily Lift at Deer Valley is known for their hot cocoa and lunch, and après ski can be enjoyed at a large variety of mountain establishments.
Utah Olympic Park, 3419 Olympic Parkway
For such a small town, Park City has great presence and was even the host of the 2002 Olympic bobsled, skeleton, luge, ski jumping, and Nordic combined games. The Utah Olympic Park still stands today and is used as a training stadium for tomorrow’s Olympic stars. It also offers a museum dedicated to the sport of skiing, public ice skating on the fastest ice in the world, and a variety of other activities that pay homage to the greatest athletes on the planet. Spending a few of your vacation hours at this prestigious park will add to the wonder of your spring fling in Park City!
A Fisherman’s Paradise
As the snow begins to melt and the temperatures begin to rise, your family fisherman will find his or her joy standing at river’s edge, casting a line out onto the water to see what bites. Fly fishing is a popular spring and summer activity, and the Lower Provo River, located just a few miles outside of Park City, is one of our favorite places to play! For those who have never tried the sport of fly fishing before, Park City Flyfishing offers tours and guidance, taking guests to the hottest fishing spots in the area as well as helping them become more skilled at casting their flies.
Step Back in Time
Our town retains much of his historic charm, and for those who believe that looking back helps you enjoy today even more, a visit to the Park City Museum offers a great way to fill a few of your vacation hours. Located at 528 Main Street, you can follow the growth of Park City from its humble beginnings as a silver mining town to the sophisticated resort town it has become today. Learn about the sacrifices made by early settlers and explore the artifacts and exhibits that have made Park City what it is today, all while staying warm and toasty on a beautiful spring day that may be offering the showers May is known for!
A Taste of the Town
Our favorite part of vacation is trying out the different flavors of the region, and the restaurants in Park City offer a variety of tastes that are sure to become your favorites!
Bartolo’s Park City, located at 1241 Center Drive is a family restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an Italian twist. Savor their smoked trout bene at breakfast, chow down on their chicken fettucine at lunch, and at dinner, every bite of their Fried Flatten Pork Chop Piccata is sure to be better than the last!
Although chain restaurants aren’t our top choice for dining, Freshie’s Lobster and their three locations (Salt Lake City, Jackson, Wyoming, and, of course, Park City) doesn’t really fit the standard chain definition, and their fresh seafood options make us happy, so we have added it to this list! Simple décor allows the food to be the star of the show, and a Freshie’s Lobster Roll enjoyed on a beautiful spring day in Park City is guaranteed to make the sun shine brighter!
When dinnertime rolls around and you just don’t want to spend your evening preparing a meal in our fully equipped and luxurious kitchens, your choices for a really excellent meal are numerous. Sushi from Yuki Yama Sushi, all-American food at Handle, and of course, the region’s most popular haute cuisine restaurant, Riverhorse on Main—these are just a few of our local restaurants serving food you can’t get anywhere else in the country, and the meals they serve are bound to be some of the most memorable ones of your getaway!
