The fall season in the Park City area is one of the best times to get outside and explore. You’ll be experiencing milder temperatures and of course, those gorgeous fall colors that cover the area. So, what are some of the best places to hike or bike during the fall in Park City?
The Park City area has more than 150 miles of public trails, ranging from easy strolls to adrenaline pumping terrain.
Area Resorts
All three area resorts — Deer Valley, The Canyons, and Park City Mountain Resort — all have trails that are prime spots for hiking. In fact, all three resorts are part of the Mid-Mountain Trail, an intermediate to advanced trail that will take you through conifer and aspen trees. There are many access points along this trail to let you enjoy this hiking experience. You can even take a lift to higher access points to make your hike even more enjoyable.
Millennium Trail
Another trail — the Millennium Trail — is less traveled that most, and will take you through some areas that are great for less experienced hikers. This is a hard-surfaced trail that has access points to the Gorgoza Park Trail. This trail will take you around Kimball Junction and then to Utah Olympic Park.
Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail
The historic Union Pacific Rail Trail is a 28-mile trail that winds its way from Park City to Echo Reservoir. The trail will take you through wetland meadows in Silver Creek Canyon, through the towns of Coalville and Wanship, and then along the Weber River to Echo Reservoir.
Round Valley
The Round Valley trail is located just northeast of Old Town. You’ll love the nearly 700 acres of open space that has more than 30 miles of trails. This high desert terrain trail includes soft surface double and single trails that are great for hikers and bikers of all abilities.
Glenwild/Flying Dog
Located just north of Kimball junction is the Glenwild/Flying Dog trail. It has different access points. This is a more difficult biking trail with steep climbs, but is great for those who are advancing into rides that are more technical.
Whether you are an experienced hiker or a novice, you will find plenty of trails to explore. You can even pick up trail maps from various retailers in the area to help you find the perfect fall hike.
