As we look ahead to the summer season, we want to start planning out where we want to take the family next. The summer season offers plenty of opportunities for travel, including over the 4th of July weekend. Our patriotic holiday is the perfect time to see somewhere new such as Park City. While you may best know Park City for being a top winter sports destination, it is also an incredible summer destination. The holiday offers plenty of summer activities and summer events to enjoy. Take a look at how to spend a long weekend of the 4th of July in Park City:
4th of July Drone Show
One activity that is always a necessity over the 4th of July is a stunning fireworks show. That is always the first thing that comes to mind when celebrating the holiday. Here in Park City, we do things a little differently; instead of a fireworks show, you will find an incredible drone show on the night of the 4th of July. Just because it is a drone show does not mean you will be disappointed with the experience. Our 4th of July drone show has been conducted for several years now and is a local favorite activity. This type of activity lets the drones come up with stunning aerial displays instead of your typical fireworks bursts. Your kids will be amazed at the shapes taking place in the sky that they have never seen anywhere else. In previous years the drone show has come up with incredible shapes including a pickaxe and mining helmet to highlight Park City’s mining history along with the expected stars and stripes. Park City takes its potential for wildfire seriously and offers a safe and exciting show for all. Don’t miss out on the 4th of July Drone Show taking place on the holiday just after sundown over at Park City Mountain. The drone show is free for everyone to attend!
4th of July 5K
Before you get to the drone show in the evening, you will have quite a few events and activities taking place in the day. First up for the morning is the annual 4th of July 5K to help you get moving right away in the morning. This local event goes back to the early 80s when the 5K was established to support youth athletes. Park City is a city that is unknown for its Olympic development program and the race just further shows the commitment to our youth. The 4th of July 5K is a popular event that maxes out at 1,000 runners each year with each year reaching capacity before the event. Participants are able to register in advance with prices at $30 per child and $50 per adult. Participants will be provided race numbers and t shirts that can be picked up in advance from Cole Sport Park Avenue. Come join this local event that will benefit the Park City Ski & Snowboard where Olympic hopefuls are given world class instruction.
4th of July Parade and Fun
After the race has completed you and the whole family can enjoy a full day of activities taking place right here in Downtown Park City. The fun begins with a flyover that includes historic planes flying over Historic Main Street. This signals the start to the 4th of July in Park City where the city comes together to celebrate our country’s foundation. The 4th of July Parade will then kick off at 11:00 AM that features an abundance of decorated floats marching through the city. Find a viewing spot on Historic Main Street to see this delightful parade take place; the parade is always popular so finding a viewing area early is highly recommended. The parade will continue until it ends nearby City Park where the holiday fun continues.
Starting at 12:30 PM, locals and visitors can head to City Park for a holiday gathering. Food trucks will be on hand selling delicious cuisine for lunch. Live music will be on stage for you to groove with. A rugby game at the park is a local tradition where you can participate or watch this fascinating sport. Kids will find all kinds of games and activities that will keep them busy. Additional activities will continue throughout the day as well with the Forum Fest at Canyons Village at 2:00 PM and Oakley Rodeo at 7:30 PM. You have a jam packed day of fun before the drone show starts around 10:00 PM.
