When travelers think of visiting Park City, Utah, they probably conjure up images of snowy ski slopes, mountainside chalets, and cold weather climates. However, the Kimball Art Center shows that there is much more to do in this mountain village than just play in the snow. In 1976, the late-founder Bill Kimball opened the original art center (then located on Park Avenue downtown), yet because of architectural constraints, it moved to its current address at 1401 Kearns Boulevard in 2011. Inside, the art center is more than just a museum. Here you will find hands-on working studios, educational programs, events, cultural opportunities, and of course, plenty of rotating exhibitions.

Classes, Workshops & Camps

The Kimball Art Center presents a wide variety of programs designed to foster a profound appreciation of art for all ages and all skill levels. For example, one of the more popular classes includes the family friendly ceramics and pottery workshop. Entitled “Wheel Try It,” the class allows everyone to throw and mold their own pottery masterpiece! A small sample size of other classes and workshops include yoga instruction, open painting, figure drawing, watercolors, glass fusion and mixed media. The classes are always changing, so check the calendar often for updated schedules.

Exhibitions & Events

In addition to its role as a cultural institution in Park City, the Kimball Art Center also presents artwork in a varied array of mediums. From photography to plastic art, everyone who creates regardless of ability or age has the possibility to display artwork on the walls here. Furthermore, the art center hosts community events throughout the year, each one specifically designed to foment a love for the arts in all its forms. Additionally, admission to the Kimball Art Center is always free to the public.

Educational Programs

Since the Kimball Art Center works as a non-profit organization, the fact that it provides so much to the community in the form of youth art programs is quite a marvel in this profit-driven age. On any day of the week, visitors will see children in the A.R.T.S. (Academic Resources for Teachers and Students) program, which teaches cross-curriculum lessons to K-12 students while the EVA (Elementary Visual Arts) program helps to bring art into local schools. In this sense, the Kimball Art Center is one of the best places to visit in Park City, any time of the year.
