One of the best indication that spring and summer is here is the arrival of the Main Street restaurant patios. This sight of these wonderful outdoor dining areas brings joy to diners, whether they are visitors or locals.
Since 2010, the City has allowed certain dining establishment to construct decks on some of the parking spaces that line Main Street.
From its start, the program has been extremely popular among restaurant owners, along with diners. This summer, eight leases have been approved.
A Desire for Outdoor Dining Spaces
The program was created in part as a response to the desire for outdoor dining that was in addition to restaurants that currently have patio dining.
The leadership of the restaurants and Main Street merchants say that the decks have helped the entire Main Street area.
The City charges about $1,067 to $1,665 per parking space as a lease. This charge is based on a percentage of the estimated loss in parking revenue.
