Although Park City, Utah is usually thought of primarily as a ski and snowboard haven of wintertime activity, it’s also packed with fun things to do for the rest of the year! And springtime is an especially great time to visit – winter crowds are waning, summer vacationers haven’t filled the area yet, and the fresh spring weather just brings a certain amount of excitement to the air. Here are some of our favorite activities to enjoy during spring in Park City.

Enjoy the Last Bit of Winter

Just because it is springtime doesn’t mean that all the winter fun is over in Park City. Some days in March and even into early April can still be great to hit the slopes. You’ll still have plenty of fresh snow, yet the days will be warmer and sunnier! You can still go skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, cross country skiing, winter biking, or tubing. You can even visit the Utah Olympic Park, which is a U.S. Olympic training site that is open to the public! Visitors here can watch the most elite athletes train and compete, as well as learn about the Olympic history of the area at the Alf Engen Ski History Museum and the 2002 Eccles Winter Olympic Museum. Make sure you don’t leave without taking a run down the Comet Bobsled track!

Take a Hike During Spring in Park City

Although a lot of the higher elevation trails will still have snow, there are many lower elevation hikes that will be perfectly accessible for exploring in the spring! The Round Valley Trail System, located northwest of Historic Main Street, features over 30 miles of trails spread throughout 700 acres of varied terrain. This is a great trail area if you’ve brought a fur baby along, as dogs are not required to be leashed! Also, if you start your hike at Quinns Trailhead you can enjoy the facilities that include bathrooms, a kid’s playground, and an outdoor workout playground for adults. Another Park City classic hike is the Lost Prospector trail, which sits just above the town and follows the ridgeline, offering stunning views of the town and the local resorts. The trail can be hiked out-and-back, or you can join up with the Rail Trail to make it a loop.

Stay Outside

Another great way to see the sights during spring in Park City while also connecting with nature at a closer level is on horseback. There are several local stables with reliable, well-trained horses available for any length of lessons or trail rides. Other outdoor activities around here include golfing, fly fishing, biking, and zip-lining. You can even ride Utah’s largest Alpine Coaster and buzz through over a mile of curves and loops at speeds nearing 30 miles per hour – all while taking in the fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery!

See the City

For a more culturally immersive day in Park City, check out some of the interesting museums and art galleries in our historic downtown. Wander down Main Street and stop in any one of our local art galleries, such as Terzian Galleries, featuring art from regional artists, or the Kimball Art Center, which is Park City’s most comprehensive art venue. Other notable cultural stops in Park City include some of the United States’ best photography galleries, Mangelsen – Images of Nature Gallery, Bret Webster Images, and the David Beavis Gallery, all of which feature an array of breathtaking nature images from the US and beyond. Later, visit the Park City Museum on Main Street to learn about the town’s mining and ski history. Or take a 75-minute guided Park City Ghost Tour and learn about the many supposed haunted buildings in the area! If you want to round out your day with tours, try a Park City Food Tour and go beyond your standard mountain town experience while you enjoy a taste of four or five of the best restaurants on Main Street.

Attend an Event

There is no such thing as a boring weekend in Park City. You can always find an event, class or live music jam to attend! At the Egyptian Theatre, see live music from Sierra Hull, the Bill Frisell Trio, or The Ventures. Mindful Cuisine Kitchen classroom offers classes for Cooking Basics, New Orleans Fare, and Flavors of Spring. Classes can be taken as part of a group or booked privately. At the State Road Tavern and Restaurant, you can attend Musicians Showcase or Karaoke Night! If you’re just looking to enjoy some classic city nightlife, check out any of Park City’s more than 100 bars and restaurants for great drinks and drool-worthy eats. Spring in Park City is basically a giant party – especially when locals and vacationers all come together for the Annual Pond Skimming Contest, where competitors dressed in costume try to skim over a large pond on skis or snowboards!
